In Manila,
Google is providing complimentary courses in artificial intelligence (AI),
along with various other IT programs centered on data analytics and
cybersecurity.
Yves
Gonzalez, Head of Public Policy & Government Relations at Google
Philippines, expressed the company's commitment to assisting Filipinos in
getting ready for future employment opportunities.
"We aim
to increase accessibility to AI career paths. The great news is that these
resources are freely available, open to anyone, anytime, and anywhere," he
stated.
Google has
introduced free AI courses following a collaboration with the Economist Impact
think-tank, which conducted a survey to gauge employees' desired skills for
career advancement.

"The
courses feature a wide array of topics including the difference between
generative AI and other types of AI, responsible AI, and machine learning, and
much much more," Gonzalez noted.
"After
this, learners can pursue other machine learning and data science
courses," he added.
The survey
revealed that 42 percent of Filipino workers expressed a desire to acquire AI
and machine learning skills, surpassing the Asia-Pacific region's average of 33
percent.
Furthermore,
the poll indicated that 68 percent of Filipino employees sought to develop
self-management skills, encompassing time management, stress tolerance, and
quick learning capabilities in the workplace.
Beyond
self-management, Filipino professionals expressed a strong interest in
acquiring digital skills such as providing information technology (IT) support
and cybersecurity expertise.
To cater to
these demands, Google is launching three new courses as part of its Google
Career Certificates program: business intelligence, advanced data analytics,
and cybersecurity.
These
offerings complement the existing six courses, which include data analytics, IT
automation, IT support, project management, UI/UX design, and e-commerce.
Google is
also making available an additional 1,000 certificate scholarships this year,
as disclosed by Gonzalez.
In 2022,
Google reported granting 39,000 career certificate scholarships to enhance
employability among Filipinos.
Gonzalez
mentioned that these scholarships are provided in collaboration with government
agencies such as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department
of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Additionally,
these courses can also be accessed on the Coursera learning platform for a
nominal fee, he added.
